The patient in this interactive webcast is a 39 year old woman who complains of prolonged heavy bleeding lasting two weeks out of the month. She is married with one child born in 1995. The patient was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. She has a large sub-mucous intercavitary fibroid. Removal was attempted hysteroscopically but failed because of the fibroid size and the location of surgery. This patient also has a congenital ateriovenous malformation with pelvic vessel enlargement. She is not interested in having any more children and wishes to proceed with a hysterectomy for the treatment of uterine fibroids.
A laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy will take place at 4:00 p.m. EDT from Celebration Hospital in Orlando, FL. Dr. Steven McCarus will perform the procedure.
