About the Physicians
Michael J. Stamos MD, FACS, FASCRS
Dr. Michael J. Stamos is Professor of Surgery at University of California Irvine School of Medicine, Clinical Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Colon & Rectal Surgery. Michael was born in Miami, Florida and received his undergraduate and MD degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his internship and residency at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center in Miami, Florida and received his fellowship training at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Michael then moved west where he joined the University of California Los Angeles faculty and worked primarily at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California for eleven years. In 2002 he went to UC Irvine Medical Center to establish the Division of Colon & Rectal Surgery at that institution, and from 2005 – 2006 he served as Interim Chair of the Department of Surgery at UCI.
Michael and his wife Bridget and his son Ilias live in Rolling Hills Estates in Southern California. Michael enjoys the California climate and geography with an active lifestyle including hiking the local terrain. He is also an avid bicyclist and he spends his available free time catching bugs with his four year old son, a budding entomologist.
Steven Mills, MD
Dr. Steven Mills, Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery, specializes in colorectal surgery at UCI's H.H. Chao Comprehensive Digestive Disease Center. He was born in Ridgecrest, California and completed his undergraduate studies at UC San Diego. He then received his medical degree from New York Medical College. He performed his internship and residency training at the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. He then completed his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Southern California.
Upon completion of training, Dr Mills joined the faculty at UC Irvine, splitting his time between UC Irvine and the Long Beach VA hospital. He is building a busy clinical practice and enjoys teaching medical students and residents. He was honored with the John Connolly Award in 2006 for the outstanding teaching professor in surgery by the residents.
Steven and his wife Kelly live in Long Beach, where they are excited to be new parents of a baby girl, Alexa.
